D. douglee25 Discussion starter · Nov 14, 2011. I figured I would give you guys a review of the Meg Mo blades soley based on the fall season thus far. The grass here is almost dormat and the leaves have been heavily falling. Per Meg Mo's advice, they state using the expanded metal as a block off on the chute to allow air to flow through it still.
318 meg-mo review. Bought a set of Meg-Mo blades over the winter for my 318 with 50" deck and I thought I would share my experiences. First off the blades when installed are roughly .200 to .250 lower than the stock JD blades. This places the blades even with the bottom of the deck. My first experience using them was disappointing.Rather the top blade cuts the grass higher than you want, then the lower blade cuts it again. ITs like mowing the lawn once, then dropping the deck a notch and mowing it again, just in one pass instead of two. 2. More blades also means more suction if you have a grass that dont like to pop back up after it is ran over.I installed the Meg mo blades, that arrived today, as easy as any blade and decided to give them a try. Knowing it was to wet considering that today was the first day of sun since the past two straight weeks of rain. My grass was extremely high. It had not been mowed since the day before Thanksgiving. 30 days and recently fertilized.Rather the top blade cuts the grass higher than you want, then the lower blade cuts it again. ITs like mowing the lawn once, then dropping the deck a notch and mowing it again, just in one pass instead of two. 2. They do a great finish cut and throw clippings farther than any other blades I have used ( in either short or tall grass). Try to maintain the normal angle of the blade edge as you file. 4. Check for balance: Take off the blade from the clamp and carefully brush it clean with a brush or your hand. The actual blade on meg-mows is only about 4'-4 1/2" long, the rest is the flat heavy steel disk app. 3/8-1/2" thick. Several things concern me about Meg-Mo blades if I was a pro cutter or put a mower out anywhere besides the "back 40". Harder blades (north of HRc 45) have been exhaustively tested by OEM's and are very difficult to get past the stake test. The swing blade design probably helps blade fracture during impact but I would still be mindful.

When you encounter heavy grass with a fixed blade system the engine comes under load because there is no give, the blades won't fold back. When you encounter heavy grass with the Meg-Mo the knives will fold back simply because they can.Meg-Mo blades are the most recent addition to the market for rotary saw blades. They have been introduced as an alternative to other brands and have been received with a lot of enthusiasm. However, there have been some issues and complaints that come with this product as well. Meg-Mo blade is a very specialized brand of rotary saw blades.

Grass that tall starts to grow in clumps so it's never going to look like a lawn when it's cut short. I'm pretty sure the striping is caused by the swing blades retracting somewhat as the deck clogs with clippings.
